I'm happy to say that the first week of school had a great start! Throughout the week, we students met new teachers and started to warm up to the idea of school. After all, summer always seems way too short…Anyway, I'm sure many other students, like me, enjoyed seeing their friends again. Students were catching up and laughing on all three floors of MPHS. You could definitely tell that there was excitement in the air.
The start of the new year brought a relatively new behavior system into the mix. Over the summer, teachers went to a conference; "Capturing Kids' Hearts". There, they learned several different methods to "capture kids' hearts". This was implemented with teachers greeting students and shaking their hands at the classroom door. How's that for change? It was a pleasant surprise. Plus, you get the chance to practice the perfect handshake (for the perfect job interview). Along with the handshakes, certain hand symbols have been implemented: such as "time out", "foul", and the thumb-air-jab (this motion is to alert the student to pay attention- not to alert the teacher: there is NO sabotage, here!). This seems to be a very interesting beginning to the school year. What do you think?
